Animal Guardian Alliance

Real skills, real animals, real kindness.

The Animal Guardian Alliance is my program for kids, teaching how to treat animals ethically and kindly. Children learn by doing, and nobody is ever ranked. Every child moves at their own pace.

Where it lives

The Alliance is built on Patreon. Each child takes part through a private profile that a parent or guardian sets up and manages.

No competition

There are levels and badges, but they mark growth, never rank. There are no leaderboards, and no child is compared to another.

Coming first: the pilot

The first group will be for ages 7 and up, starting with the first three levels.

Five levels

Growing as a guardian.

  1. Animal AllyWhere everyone starts.
  2. Care CadetThe basics of daily care.
  3. Rescue RangerShelters, rescue and adoption.
  4. Kindness CaptainShowing compassion in what you do.
  5. Animal Alliance HeroThe highest honor, with the biggest collection of activities.

Five units

One for each kind of animal.

Each unit has its own reading, activities and quizzes. Finishing a unit earns a reward, and finishing all five earns a special badge.

What kids learn

Eight things every guardian knows.

ConsentAsk first, every time.
RespectFor an animal's feelings and space.
ApproachComing close without causing fear.
BoundariesKnowing when an animal has had enough.
Gentle handsSoft, slow and kind.
HoldingHow to hold an animal, and when not to.
Behavior cuesReading what an animal's body is saying.
Bite and scratch careWhat to do if it happens.

Kids who have an animal at home practice hands-on, and some activities help them learn to handle big feelings too. A few of the first ones: asking to pet an animal and hearing โ€œnoโ€, a red light, green light game about body language, gentle holding with a stuffed animal, and cleaning and bandaging a scratch.

For parents and guardians

You're not grading. You're witnessing.

Kids earn points for activities and badges for levels and units. A parent or guardian approves each activity, and you don't need to be an expert: every activity comes with a short guide to talk it through together.

When you sign off on an activity, ask:

  1. Did they stop and ask?
  2. Did they accept the answer?
  3. Did they let the animal come to them?
  4. Did they follow the 3-pets rule?
  5. Did they use gentle hands?
